For all interested and passionate gamers and game developers, software professionals who needed the knowledge and understanding to design games, a workshop was conducted in M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, Bangalore. Conducted by a strong team of varying experienced professionals from faculty of Computer Animation and Games Development (CAGD), the workshop deliver the reality that exists before production of entertaining games be it - games based on comedy style story line or empathy on a character who has lost someone or even managing an entire action packed racing show.
The workshop was attended by dignitaries of various companies like Robosoft Technologies, NDS, MindTree etc., Colleges and even interested individuals. As part of the workshop plan, the design process consisted of a well balanced training module that included both theory and practical sessions. Various elements of game design were discussed during the theory sessions followed by a group based activity sessions, where the team needed to discuss on their game idea based on the theory criterion. Few of these ideas were… You are the President of your country. However, it so happened that you have been kidnapped by a terrorist group and held in a unknown location. You are on your own now, your life is at stake and you need to escape from them. Your scientist father left you a Super Bike before he died. The bike has got the brain of a Super Computer and can do anything like access a computer terminal, provide a supersonic jet flight capability, advice you during times of trouble. You are now in possession of a Super Technology, that can save many innocent lives and throw evil men in prison. Use it to protect your country from evil men. The game design workshop presented topics that included - Game development (Business), Creative process for concept generation, Game Design - elements and process etc., Discussion on Gameplay elements, Mechanics of games, Concept Art, User interface design, Level design, Documents for game design, Integrating game content and programming. After the theory discussion, groups were asked to discuss on their game ideas (ideas were given prior). Faculty actively involved in the workshop consisted of Mr. Brian Gee Chacko (Lead trainer and Senior Lecturer), Mr. Harshal Sawant (Assistant Professor and Course Manager), Mr. B.S. Abhilash (Senior Design Consultant), Mrs. Archana Patil (Senior Lecturer), Mr. L.D. Kalidasa (Design Associate, Dept. of Design). Some of the workshop highlights included a presentation by all the groups for their game ideas and prize distribution for the same. The CGVR team took a general case study on an in-house game development for a game based on the famous epic Mahabharat revolving around the character Arjun.
